Is Terry Rozier the next Dwyane Wade?
Just about every Boston Celtics fan in existence was shocked when their favorite team selected Terry Rozier with the 16th pick in the 2015 NBA draft. The Louisville point guard was projected to go much later in the first round, and Boston already has several young players on its roster that share a very similar skill-set.
But what if the Celtics landed a gem? Here's more on why Rozier could be the athletic, downhill scorer Boston still needs, courtesy of CelticsBlog's Kevin O'Connor:
"Rozier has used this motivation to develop a strong work ethic in the gym and the weight room. He was just a lanky kid in high school, but quickly added muscle to become the stalky player that'll grace the parquet floor this season. He spends extensive time watching film of his favorite player, Dwyane Wade, who he tries to resemble on the floor. 'Terry has mimicked D-Wade so much I think sometimes he thinks he is,' said Louisville head coach Rick Pitino."
Wade is a three-time champion and one of the five best players his position has ever seen, so that comparison is obviously a bit out there. But Rozier is long, plays defense, isn't afraid to shoot and can really get to the basket.
Guards who find success in the NBA need to either stroke threes or flourish in the paint. If Rozier can solidify himself as a dependable penetrator, Celtics fans will count their lucky stars not before too long.
