Chris Bosh shares a 'positive' update about his health

Published Mar. 10, 2016 12:32 p.m. ET

Blood clots in Chris Bosh's left leg have kept the All-Star forward out of action since early February. Bosh and the Miami Heat have both been quiet about his condition for the past few weeks, but Thursday he released a statement that says he's blood clot-free, and hinted at a possible return before the regular season is over.

There are no guarantees, but this reads like a step in the right direction for one of the NBA's most beloved figures:

Somehow, Miami has thrived in the 11-time All-Star's absence, maintaining its spot in the playoffs despite the fact that Bosh is by far its best player. If the regular season ended today, the Heat would square off against the Atlanta Hawks as a four seed in the first round, and they've had the NBA's fourth-highest net rating since the break. That's good, but they can't do much damage in the postseason without a healthy Bosh.

This season, he's averaging 19.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, posting his highest PER (20.4) since leaving the Toronto Raptors in 2010.

Bosh's health is the most important thing here—that can't be overstated—but if he does come back, the Heat would suddenly look like an extremely dangerous team. Could they take down LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in a second-round battle? It's definitely possible.
