Bulls Notes: R.J. Hunter Signing Official, Spencer Dinwiddie Heading to D-League

The Chicago Bulls won their season opener, signed their 15th man and sent a solid preseason player to their new D-League affiliate.

Thursday was an eventful day for the Chicago Bulls.

Not only did the franchise kick off their 51st NBA season with a 105-99 victory, they announced a couple of personnel maneuvers moving forward in the young season.

After waiving Spencer Dinwiddie when the preseason concluded, the Bulls brought back the third-year guard, but to their new D-League affiliate in Hoffman Estates.

Here’s D-League expert Chris Reichert with the scoop:

Dinwiddie played well in his action with the Bulls during their seven-game preseason schedule, but the Bulls had other ideas for their backcourt depth. That was made clear when the trade went through that brought Michael Carter-Williams to town and shipped out Tony Snell 90 minutes north to Milwaukee.

Roughly 45 minutes after the news broke on Dinwiddie joining the D-League Bulls, the Bulls officially made the signing of R.J. Hunter … well, official.

According to those with locker room access before Thursday’s season opener, Hunter’s signing was done even before the announcement.

Hunter, the second-year man out of Georgia State, will be the 11th player to wear No. 31 for the Bulls and the first since former second-round pick Erik Murphy back in 2014.

With Hunter officially signed, the Bulls now have all 15 roster spots filled, after being the lone team in the NBA with an open roster spot before Wednesday night’s report on the Bulls and Hunter being close on a deal.

There’s no word yet on when Hunter will see his first action for the Bulls, or if he’s heading for the Windy City Bulls before their inaugural season stars on Nov. 11.
