Brett Brown: Sixers will provide security, transportation if players want to go out

Jahlil Okafor not only was caught on video punching someone outside of a club in Boston this week, but he was also reportedly involved in an October incident where a gun was pointed at his head.
In the aftermath of the recent troubles with his player, 76ers head coach Brett Brown said that the team provides services -- like security and transportation -- in order to ensure its players remain safe when experiencing a night on the town.
It's a nice gesture, of course, but how many of us would want our employer knowing what we're up to after hours, even if the service they were providing was one which was only intended to help?
There will be times when players will want to go it alone, for obvious reasons. But Okafor is just 19 years old, and given the fact that he's had two of these run-ins in his first two months in the league, he may want to take advantage of what the team has to offer, at least for the remainder of his rookie season.
Lance Williams is the team's director of security. The Sixers have a car service available for players who want to go out.
"That's part of the education for Jahlil and others," Brown said. "If you choose to go out, of course you know we have Lance Williams. Of course you know we have internal security. Of course you know we will provide an automobile to transport you. We will create an environment to protect our player.
"But they are going to have to call upon it from time to time. We can't monitor their every move."
Brown said that he's concerned that underage drinking may have played a part in Friday's situation. He added that the Sixers will learn a lot as the facts come out.
