All-Star big man Al Horford has found his way to the Boston Celtics. So what might be in store for this season?

Big Al as he is commonly referenced, kicks off his career with the Boston Celtics tomorrow night against the Philadelphia 76ers.  We know Isaiah Thomas will benefit from the big man’s presence.  So, what else will Horford help with?

15 points and seven rebounds per game are solid numbers, but  Horford brings more to the table than just stats.  His leadership and locker room presence will be very helpful to the young guys.  Also, his playoff experience will help this Celtics team reach the next level.  He isn’t necessarily known as a shot-blocker, but Horford does have a presence around the rim.

During the Celtics playoff series against the Hawks, there were moments where Horford’s length really bothered some of the C’s while driving into the paint.  The first game of that playoff series, Horford posted 12 rebounds and 24 points, while shooting 47% from the field.  While Jared Sullinger was able to step out an hit his mid-range jumper, Al Horford can do that on a much more consistent basis.

There are skeptics that believe he’s too old to have a max contract given to him.  Al Horford was the second biggest name free-agent out there.  He’s only 30, and fills a vital need for this Boston Celtics team. If he can stay healthy, he’ll be worth every penny the C’s pay him.

Horford is going to stretch the floor, make smart plays, and help be a leader on a team looking to challenge the Cleveland Cavaliers.  Speaking of Cleveland, Big Al had a solid series against them during the Eastern Conference semis.  He never scored in single digits, but his rebounding needed some work.

It’ll take some time, but once Al Horford finds a rhythm with his teammates, the Boston Celtics are going to be tough to beat.
