Before becoming the raspy-voiced, championship-winning coach of the Boston Celtics, Glenn “Doc” Rivers was a standout point guard for the Hawks. During the 1988 season, he made his first and only, All-Star Game, starring alongside Dominique Wilkins. His 20.4 PER ranked 15h in the league, finishing behind 13 Hall-of-Famers, and two greats (Mark Aguirre and Fat Lever). His 9.3 assists ranked fifth, and 1.8 steals placed him within the top 20.
Rivers was drafted by the Hawks in 1983 and he spent eight seasons in Atlanta. His time ended after the 1990 season, when he was traded to the LA Clippers in exchange for the draft pick that ended up becoming Stacey Augmon. Rivers went on to play four more seasons in the NBA with the Knicks and Spurs before retiring after the 2000 season.
