Veteran pitcher Barry Zito continues to impress for the Oakland Athletics' Triple-A affiliate Nashville Sounds, as the 37-year-old picked up an award on Monday.

Zito was named the PCL Pitcher of the Week for May 25-31 as a result of going 2-0 with 14 shutout innings against the Sacramento River Cats (the A's old Triple-A affiliate) and the Las Vegas 51s.

MiLB.com notes that Zito was the only PCL pitcher to have two starts in that span and allow zero runs, as he held batters to a .111 average in those two outings.

This is the second time Zito has received the award, as the first dates back to his early days as an Oakland A's prospect:

With Zito settling into a groove in Triple-A, it begs the question of whether the A's have any plans to call Zito up and add him to their 25-man roster. They've selected players from Nashville frequently over the past couple of weeks due to injuries, yet Zito remains there.

If he keeps pitching like this, though, other teams may come calling for his services as an efefctive left-handed starter with an obvious history of success at the Major League level.
