Yankees work to get a deal with free agent 1B Ike Davis

NEW YORK (AP) The Yankees are trying to close a deal for free agent first baseman Ike Davis, hoping to add depth at a position where they've been hurt this season.

Davis has been released from his minor league contact with Texas. He hit .268 with four home runs and 25 RBIs for Triple-A Round Rock.

The 29-year-old played for Oakland last season, hitting .229 with three home runs and 20 RBIs. He had 32 homers for the New York Mets in 2012.

New York went into Sunday's game against Detroit with Rob Refsnyder starting at first base. He's been playing there lately after moving over from second base. Backup catcher Austin Romine also can play first.

New York has put four first basemen on the disabled list this season. Chris Parmelee was the latest to go on the DL, joining Mark Teixeira, Dustin Ackley and Greg Bird.
