Tigers place Guillen on DL
The Detroit Tigers placed outfielder Carlos Guillen on the 15-day
disabled list with a strained left hamstring and called up
outfielder Brennan Boesch from Triple-A Toledo prior to Friday
night's game against the Texas Rangers.
Guillen, a three-time All-Star, is .311 with a homer and
eight RBIs. He was injured while running the bases in Thursday
night's 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.
Boesch, the DH in the No. 5 slot against Texas in his major
league debut, was batting .379 with three homers and 17 RBIs in 15
games for Toledo.
``It feels pretty good to walk in here and see my uniform,''
Boesch said a few minutes after arriving in the Tigers clubhouse.
Manager Jim Leyland said he didn't know what to expect from
Boesch.
``I really like him,'' Leyland said. ``I didn't expect him to
be here this soon. But I think he'll do well.''
The Tigers were ahead 5-3 Thursday night when Guillen
attempted to score from second on Scott Sizemore's fifth-inning
single. Guillen pulled up lame halfway between third and home and
was tagged out by catcher Mike Napoli to end the inning.
``No fun,'' said Guillen he limped through the Tigers
clubhouse before Friday night's game.
``He was starting to swing the bat well so it's a crying
shame,'' Leyland said of Guillen's injury.
