Padres' 2016 ASG logo might foreshadow uniform changes

Sunshine yellow is not currently one of the San Diego Padres’ colors. However, it does figure prominently on the recently revealed logo of the 2016 All-Star Game to be hosted by the Padres at Petco Park.

The San Diego Union-Tribune hinted that that color might foreshadow changes coming to the Padres’ color scheme and uniforms for next season. Executive chairman Ron Fowler said:

"We like some of the colors, but there are other issues that we are looking at ... We need a little more time to make decisions, but it shouldn't be surprising that that's one of the options we're looking at.”

According to the U-T, the sunshine yellow surrounding the "SD" in the archway of the logo not only refers to the Gaslamp Quarter Archway, but it also hearkens back to the Padres’ original 1969 logo. As many fans recall, brown was the primary color the Padres wore at their inception, and the calls to “bring back the brown” have become louder in recent years among Padres fans.

Might the Padres indeed be bringing back the brown next season? With navy blue figuring prominently in the 2016 ASG logo, it’s probably unlikely. Though per the U-T, when asked whether brown was ruled out, Fowler said “not necessarily.”
