The Nationals sold more than 6,000 tickets for $1 apiece in about three hours Wednesday as part of a promotion tied to an on-field, pregame news conference with No. 1 overall draft pick Stephen Strasburg.

The right-hander will be introduced by his new club before Washington plays the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night. Another 1,000 of the $1 tickets will go on sale that day.

All game tickets will allow fans to get into Nationals Park as early as 1:30 p.m., about 5 1/2 hours before the scheduled first pitch. Strasburg is scheduled to appear at 2 p.m.

The hard-throwing San Diego State pitcher and the last-place Nationals agreed Monday to a record-setting contract worth $15.1 million over four years.

Washington ranks 14th of 16 NL teams in attendance, averaging roughly 23,000 spectators per home game.
