M's move Bedard onto 60-day DL

Published May. 20, 2010 3:59 a.m. ET

The Seattle Mariners have transferred left-handed starter Erik Bedard from the 15-day to 60-day disabled list in a move that is more to create room on the 40-man roster than an indication of a major setback.

Manager Don Wakamatsu said Wednesday that though Bedard felt some discomfort in his surgically repaired shoulder during a recent simulated game, it was only a routine issue over the course of recovery.

Wakamatsu says Bedard will play catch on Saturday.

The 60-day period from the start of the season will end on June 3.

June will be 10 months after Bedard's surgery to repair a torn labrum in the shoulder. That had been on the hopeful end of Bedard's initial estimated recovery time.
