Cody Ross awarded to Giants

Outfielder Cody Ross has been awarded to the San Francisco Giants from Florida on a waiver claim.

Ross will give the Giants more outfield depth for the final weeks of the playoff race. He's hitting .265 with 11 home runs and 58 RBIs.

The move Sunday allowed the cost-conscious Marlins to purge payroll. They plan to recall Cameron Maybin on Tuesday from Triple-A New Orleans for a late-season tryout in center field.
