Carlos Gomez leaves gum, note in OF for Billy Hamilton

By Gordon Dixon
During Saturday’s game between the Brewers and Reds, Cincinnati’s speedster Billy Hamilton apparently lost his supply of bubble gum while in center field. Fortunately, his Milwaukee counterpart provided ample replacements.
Gomez left several pieces of gum in the outfield along with a note that read, “I see you dropped all your gum so I brought you some more.” As an added touch, Gomez included a smiley face.
Gomez has a reputation for being a guy who has rubbed more than a few people the wrong way during his career. He once aggravated Ian Desmond with a slide into second base. He also exchanged words with Gerrit Cole, which led to a benches-clearing brawl. Gomez has also been known to pimp a home run or two.
This time around, we saw the fun and good-natured side of Carlos Gomez, which is certainly much easier to like.
