Braves 3B Jones has meniscus tear

BY foxsports • May 15, 2011

Braves third baseman Chipper Jones is expected to miss at least two more days with a small meniscus tear in his right knee.

Soreness in the knee kept Jones out of the Braves' 3-2 win over the Phillies on Sunday. An MRI revealed the tear, and Jones had an injection in the knee later Sunday.

If the shot and rest don't ease Jones' discomfort within a few days, he could have an arthroscopic procedure to fix the tear.

Jones started 35 of the team's 39 games before Sunday and is hitting .275 with four homers and 27 RBIs. The switch-hitter has complained about soreness in the right knee, especially when hitting from the right side against left-handers.

Jones' 2010 season ended when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
