Astros send Cartwright to Phillies for Escalona

Left-handed pitcher Sergio Escalona has been acquired by the Houston Astros from the Philadelphia Phillies for infielder Albert Cartwright.

Escalona was designated for assignment by the Phillies last week.

He was 4-8 with a 3.81 ERA in 50 appearances with 10 saves at Double-A Reading las year. He has made 24 appearances in the Venezuelan Winter League for La Guaria, going 0-0 with a 3.94 ERA.

He was 1-0 with a 4.61 ERA in 14 appearances for the Phillies in 2009.

The 23-year-old Cartwright hit .294 in a combined 127 games for Class A Lancaster and Double-A Corpus Christi last season with 10 homers, 55 RBIs and 31 stolen bases.
