A's make Ron Washington hiring official, he'll join team on Friday
On Thursday, the Oakland A's confirmed recent reports that they were going to add former manager Ron Washington to the coaching staff. He will indeed join the club and lend a hand in trying to help the A's league-worst defense turn things around this season.
Washington worked with the A's from 1997-2006 as an infield coach and third base coach - a position Mike Gallego currently holds. Jane Lee of MLB.com notes, however, that Gallego is expected to retain his role even with Washington in the mix. Additionally, Washington will be in uniform but will not join the coaching staff in the dugout:
