Tommy Armstrong is Huskers' most important player in 2015

It almost seems like low hanging fruit to name a team’s starting quarterback as the player who is most vital to a team’s success but that doesn’t make it any less true for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

In the case of Nebraska’s starter Tommy Armstrong, he is quite the polarizing figure in Husker Nation. Supporters will point to his 3400 total yards and 29 total touchdowns in 2014. They will also point out his record breaking day against USC in the Holiday Bowl in which he threw for 381 yards and three scores.

Detractors will tell you that his ten touchdowns, nine interceptions, and 50 percent completion percentage in conference play tell the real story of a quarterback who completed just 53 percent of his passes overall on the season. They will also tell you that pre-snap to post-snap reads must improve in a new “pro-style” offense this season.

Making the switch smoothly to new head coach Mike Riley’s system for Tommy Armstrong will be the most important factor for the Huskers this season and will likely be the difference between an eight win season and a trip to the conference championship game.
