Former Oregon QB Harrington calls out Duck fans following loss to Utah, tells them to 'relax'
On Tuesday night, former Oregon QB Joey Harrington joined the show "Talkin' Ducks" and had a heartfelt rant directed at bandwagon Duck fans. Harrington was not pleased with the response to Oregon's 62-20 loss to Utah.
“If there’s 60,000 people at a big game at the new Autzen Stadium, a quarter of the Stadium is filled with people who weren’t there prior to 2001,” said Harrington. "A quarter of the Duck fans have never seen what Oregon football truly is about.”
What Oregon football is about, in Harrington's opinion, is not the flashy uniforms and national championship appearances, but rather the architects of Duck football that built the program from the ground up. Harrington names men like Bill Musgrave, Ed Moshofsky, Rich Brooks and Mike Bellotti as the foundation of Oregon football.
As for Oregon fans calling for coaches to be fired following the Utah loss, Harrington found those sentiments to be insane.
“All of this ridiculous talk about firing coaches, and the world is gonna end, and my god I’ve never seen anything like that before, is coming from people who frankly don’t know about Oregon football," said Harrington.
Finally, he addressed where Oregon stands nationally and tells Duck fans to calm down.
"We're not Alabama. We're not. We are not Michigan. We are not Texas. We are not USC. We are not Florida," said Harrington. "We are trying to be them. But in order to get to that point where you win consistently for over a half a century, you're going to have bumps. Relax."
