Charleston Southern wins 2nd straight Big South championship

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) Darius Hammond carried it 17 times for 153 yards and two touchdowns, and Charleston Southern made four interceptions in a 28-7 victory over Kennesaw State on Saturday for the Buccaneers' second straight Big South championship.

Charleston Southern took a 21-7 lead with 1:26 left before halftime after a two-play, 80-yard drive. Hammond had a 43-yard run and Kameron Brown made a one-handed grab near the sideline and raced for a 37-yard score.

Kennesaw State turned it over on downs on its first possession of the second half after 12 plays and the Owls threw an interception on their next three drives. Charleston Southern answered the first pick with a 71-yard scoring drive, capped by Hammond's 14-yard run.

Shane Bucenell completed 5 of 6 passes for 76 yards and one touchdowns for Charleston Southern (7-3, 4-1), which clinched an automatic bid to the FCS Playoffs.

Chandler Burks was just 6-of-17 passsing for 71 yards and two interceptions for Kennesaw State (8-3, 3-2). Daniel David went 3 of 11 for 27 yards and two interceptions.
