SAY WHAT?! Tyler Lydon Left Off Latest Naismith, Wooden Award Watch Lists

One of SU’s brightest stars, Tyler Lydon, is having a fantastic season. Although apparently not everyone feels that way according to recent watch lists.
Tyler Lydon, the Syracuse sophomore sensation, has not made the cut for two of college basketball’s most prestigious honors.
Lydon made the preseason watch lists for both the Naismith Player of the Year and the John R. Wooden Award, but this week he unfortunately did not receive inclusion for either one.
The Los Angeles Athletic Club has announced its late-season top 20 list for the Wooden Award, while the Atlanta Tipoff Club has revealed its mid-season top 30 players in consideration for the Naismith honor, which features seven ACC players. The 10 Naismith semifinalists will get announced on March 1.
The Wooden Award list, which includes five from the Atlantic Coast Conference, will announce its last ballot of 15 in early March.
It’s a bummer that Lydon isn’t in the running at this point, although guys not on the most-recent

lists may get put in the final groupings. However, given the stacked talent among the current candidates, I wouldn’t get your hopes up for a finish-line addition.
Regardless, Lydon, who started off the 2016-17 season in a bit of slump, has come on strong in recent weeks, helping to fuel an Orange resurgence. SU (16-9, 8-4 in conference competition) has won five in a row heading into its showdown at Pittsburgh this Saturday.
On the year, Lydon is averaging 14 points and about eight boards, along with two assists, one steal and one block. Not too shabby at all. He’s also shooting a stellar 50 percent from the field, 43 percent from downtown and 82 percent from the charity stripe.
Individual accolades are groovy, and perhaps Lydon, who is still projected by several experts as a first-round pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, will nab some sort of ACC recognition. What’s even sweeter, though, is continuing to pile on the victories in a run toward the Big Dance.
