Elias Pettersson - Snags helper for first career point
Pettersson logged an assist and two shots on goal in Sunday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Red Wings.
Impact
The helper on Pius Suter's first-period tally was Pettersson's first career point. The 20-year-old defenseman had been scratched over the previous two contests, but Pettersson remains in the NHL even with recent trade acquisitions Marcus Pettersson and Victor Mancini on the roster. Quinn Hughes (undisclosed) was unavailable Sunday and Carson Soucy was a healthy scratch, but once the Canucks' blue line is healthy, Pettersson may end up being sent back to AHL Abbotsford.

Kiefer Sherwood - Wrecking ball in return
Sherwood logged an assist, two shots on goal and eight hits in Sunday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Red Wings.
Impact
Sherwood missed four games due to an undisclosed injury. Whatever was bothering him isn't now -- he got right back to throwing his body around in his return to action on the third line alongside Pius Suter and Drew O'Connor. Sherwood is having a strong season for a depth forward with 22 points, 87 shots on net and a minus-1 rating over 48 appearances. He also has 281 hits, and even with his week-long absence, he's still miles ahead of the league in that category -- second-place Garnet Hathaway has 197 hits on the year. As long as he stays healthy, Sherwood is on track to be the first player to record a 400-hit season in NHL history.

Pius Suter - Scores in Sunday's overtime loss
Suter scored a goal on three shots in Sunday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Red Wings.
Impact
In the Canucks' first game without J.T. Miller, both Suter and Filip Chytil -- the two players most likely to take his vacated top-six spot -- scored a goal. Suter's tally opened the scoring 4:19 into the contest. The difference between the two centers came at the faceoff dot, where Suter went 5-for-16 while Chytil was 9-for-12, though Suter had the tougher defensive matchups while playing on the third line. The 28-year-old has been steady lately with three goals and two assists over his last six outings, and he's now at 14 goals, 24 points, 80 shots on net and a plus-5 rating through 51 appearances this season.

Filip Chytil - Makes good first impression
Chytil scored a goal on three shots in Sunday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Red Wings.
Impact
Chytil's goal came after a Red Wing failed to clear the puck after a poke-check, with it landing right on Chytil's stick. The 25-year-old danced around the rest of the defense and flung home his first goal as a Canuck in his team debut. The center also logged 20:03 of ice time, most among Vancouver centers, and won nine of his 12 faceoffs. The Canucks have an opening for second-line center following the trade that saw Chytil swap teams with J.T. Miller, and Chytil made a good first impression to earn that spot over Pius Suter, who also scored but went 5-for-16 on faceoffs from the third line. Overall, Chytil has 12 goals, 21 points, 92 shots on net and a plus-3 rating through 42 appearances this season. Given his role and the talent around him, he's worth considering for fantasy.

Kevin Lankinen - Yields three goals in overtime loss
Lankinen stopped 15 of 18 shots in Sunday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Red Wings.
Impact
It was not a sharp performance for Lankinen, who allowed two goals to Alex DeBrincat, including the game-winner, and one to Ben Chiarot. In January, Lankinen went 4-2-2, allowing two or fewer goals in six of those contests, though he also faced fewer than 30 shots on six occasions, leading to an .898 save percentage. He's generally been decent this season with an 18-8-7 record, a 2.57 GAA and a .904 save percentage through 33 appearances. Lankinen's play has pushed Thatcher Demko, who has struggled to get up to speed after beginning the season in recovery for a knee injury. The Canucks will want Demko to seize the No. 1 job, but until he does, Lankinen figures to continue poaching starts.

Quinn Hughes - Late scratch Sunday
Contrary to a prior report, Hughes (undisclosed) will not be in the lineup Sunday versus Detroit, per Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet 650.
Impact
Hughes took the ice for pregame warmups, but he's a late scratch for Sunday's home contest. Elias Pettersson will replace the all-world blueliner in the lineup. Hughes' next chance to suit will be Tuesday versus Colorado.

Quinn Hughes - Suiting up versus Detroit
Hughes (undisclosed) was on the ice for pregame warm-up, which indicates he'll be in the lineup Sunday against the Red Wings, according to Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet 650.
Impact
Hughes was not available for practice Saturday and was deemed a game-time decision heading into Sunday's contest, but he'll avoid missing his fifth game of the season. The star defenseman has racked up 14 goals and 59 points over 47 appearances in 2024-25.
