Bottled up by Patriots
Hockenson caught one of four targets for six yards during Sunday's 29-0 loss to New England.
Impact
With DJ Chark (ankle) and D'Andre Swift (shoulder) still sidelined and Amon-Ra St. Brown playing through an ankle sprain, the Patriots seemingly made sure to eliminate Hockenson from the Lions' game plan after the tight end put up prolific numbers against the Seahawks in Week 4. Hockenson was also a guilty party on at least one allowed sack from Patriots pass rusher Matthew Judon. With a Week 6 bye on deck, a Lions offense that entered the Week 5 leading the league in yards per game (436.8) will look to get back on track in Week 7 against the Cowboys.

Good to go
Hockenson (hip) has no injury designation for Sunday's game against the Patriots.
Impact
Foot and hip injuries have limited his practice participation, but Hockenson has played more than three-quarters of available snaps each week this year, and he broke out in a big way Week 4 with eight catches for 179 yards and two touchdowns in a 48-45 win over Seattle. That was with both DJ Chark (ankle) and Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) out of the lineup, and while Chark is ruled out for at least one more game, St. Brown is listed as questionable ahead of the 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff this Sunday.

Officially limited Thursday
Hockenson (hip) was limited in practice Thursday.
Impact
Meanwhile, the Lions' top running back and wide receiver duo of D'Andre Swift (shoulder/ankle) and Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) remained sidelined in the second session of Week 5 prep, and receivers DJ Chark (ankle) and Josh Reynolds (ankle) joined Hockenson with a cap in their reps. If both Swift and St. Brown are out Sunday at New England, Hockenson again would be in line for a significant workload after putting up an 8-179-2 line on 12 targets Week 4 against the Seahawks, assuming he gains clearance to play. Friday's practice report may provide clarity on Hockenson's chances to suit up this weekend.

Returns to practice Thursday
Hockenson (hip) took part in practice Thursday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Impact
Among Lions skill-position players that didn't mix into drills Wednesday, Hockenson, DJ Chark (ankle) and Josh Reynolds (ankle) got back on the field, while Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle), D'Andre Swift (shoulder) and Quintez Cephus (foot) did not. Hockenson's activity level won't be known until the team posts its second injury report of Week 5 prep, but his return to practice is a positive sign in advance of Sunday's game at New England.

Tending to hip issue
Hockenson was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice due to a hip injury.
Impact
The Lions were without running back D'Andre Swift (shoulder) and wide receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) and DJ Chark (ankle) in Week 4 against the Seahawks, and Hockenson benefited mightily, gathering in eight of 12 targets for 179 yards and two touchdowns. The aforementioned trio of players joined Hockenson on the sideline Wednesday, while Josh Reynolds (ankle) and Quintez Cephus (foot) also didn't practice. Considering the uncertainty in the skill-position ranks, Hockenson could be in line for another huge workload Sunday at New England, but first he'll have to practice and get rid of his injury designation.

Season-best effort Sunday
Hockenson secured eight of 12 targets for 179 yards and two touchdowns while also recording a two-point conversion pass in the Lions' 48-45 loss to the Seahawks on Sunday.
Impact
With the Lions down valued short-to-mid-range assets D'Andre Swift (shoulder) and Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle), along with DJ Chark (ankle), Hockenson unsurprisingly logged a season high in targets. However, it's what he managed to do with them that stood out, especially considering the talented tight end hadn't topped four receptions or 38 yards in any of the first three games of the season. Hockenson got loose for a 32-yard score in the first quarter, then added the two-point conversion grab early in the fourth following a Josh Reynolds TD and made his final trip to the end zone on a four-yard touchdown catch with 5:26 remaining. The 2019 first-round pick also had a game-long 81-yard catch and run in the second half, making it a career-best day overall. Hockenson will aim to carry over some of the massive Week 4 momentum into a Week 5 road battle against the Patriots, although if even just St. Brown returns, the former's target volume could certainly take a hit.

Good to go for Sunday
Hockenson (foot) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against Seattle, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Impact
Hockenson missed practice Wednesday and was limited Thursday before closing out the week with a full session Friday. He gets a nice matchup against the struggling Seattle defense, and his target-share projection improves with Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) and D'Andre Swift (shoulder) both out of the lineup. It should lead to more fantasy interest in Hockenson this week, despite his slow start to the season (10-82-1 on 18 targets through three games).
