INJURIES

Sitting on Saturday Brate is likely to sit out Saturday's preseason game against Cincinnati, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Impact Brate was on the PUP list with an undisclosed issue from July 24 to August 9, but it's possible that he'll sit out Saturday more for standard veteran rest. Brate is likely locked into a modest pass-catching role off the bench for Tampa Bay, a role in which he produced well in 2020.

Activated from PUP list Brate (undisclosed) has been removed from the PUP list, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Impact Brate has been cleared to practice with the team Tuesday and will continue to provide Tampa Bay with quality depth in a tight end corps that also includes Rob Gronkowski and O.J. Howard. Brate, who re-worked his deal with the Bucs in April, finishing up the 2020 season with 28 catches (on 34 targets) for 282 yards and two TDs, while also making his mark as a blocker.

PFF proclaims Buccaneers – not Chiefs or Cowboys – have NFL's best receiving corps
Lands on PUP list Brate (undisclosed) was placed on the active/physically unable to perform list Saturday.
Impact It's unclear what type of injury Brate might be dealing with, but it could be the Buccaneers simply choosing to be careful with their veteran tight end. Brate restructured his contract in the offseason, more or less guaranteeing his spot on the roster thanks to a slightly cheaper base salary. The 30-year-old will likely struggle to make a significant fantasy impact so long as Rob Gronkowski and O.J. Howard remain healthy.

Super Bowl champions address wants, not needs in NFL draft

Reworks contract Brate restructured his contract Wednesday, allowing the Buccaneers to clear up $4.69 million in cap space, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Impact Per the terms of the restructure, Brate receives a $2.43 million signing bonus, while his 2021 base salary dips to $1.08 million. The Bucs will have team options in 2022 and 2023, so this can mostly be viewed as a move to shift Brate's cap hit into future seasons. The restructure should also solidify his roster spot in Tampa Bay, though targets will be hard to come by if fellow tight ends Rob Gronkowski and O.J. Howard stay healthy. Brate averaged only 2.1 targets per game last season, and that was with Howard out for most of the year with an Achilles injury. For fantasy purposes, the interesting part of Brate's renegotiation is that it freed up cap space for the Bucs to re-sign wideout Antonio Brown, who is back in Tampa Bay on a one-year deal.

Three-catch effort in SB LV win Brate (back) secured all three targets for 26 yards during the Buccaneers' 31-9 win over the Chiefs in Super Bowl LV on Sunday.
Impact The veteran tight end made good use of his scant opportunities, with his 15-yard catch-and-run sequence late in the first quarter getting the ball down to the Chiefs' 15-yard line on a drive that ultimately culminated in an eight-yard touchdown catch by Rob Gronkowski. Brate was outshined by his position mate Sunday, but the Harvard product actually enjoyed a more productive late-season run with a solid 21-267-1 line on 27 targets from Week 15 through the Super Bowl LV victory. The soon-to-be eight-year veteran finished the regular campaign with 28 receptions, 282 yards and two touchdowns while also serving as a solid blocker for the run game, and with two years remaining on his contract at manageable cap hits of $6.8 million and $7.5 million, Brate may have a solid chance of returning in 2021.

Playing Sunday Brate (back) is listed as active for Sunday's Super Bowl LV against the Chiefs, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Impact Per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com, Brate was a midweek addition to the injury report due to what was termed "minor discomfort" in his back, which limited him in practice Thursday and kept him off the field entirely Friday. Through three playoff games, Brate leads fellow tight end Rob Gronkowski in terms of targets, 16-7, likely making him a better bet to impact the box score Sunday.

Health is on Tampa Bay's side vs. the Kansas City Chiefs
Should be able to play Brate (back) is expected to play in the Super Bowl on Sunday, despite being listed as questionable after missing Friday's practice, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Impact Brate was a mid-week addition to the injury report, listed as a limited participant in Thursday's practice. He reportedly felt better Friday, yet the Bucs downgraded him to non-participation. If the tight end suffers a late setback, the team has Tanner Hudson and Antony Auclair on hand for TE depth behind Rob Gronkowski.

Questionable for Super Bowl Brate (back) was held out of Friday's practice and is listed as questionable for the Super Bowl against Kansas City on Sunday, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Brate was a mid-week addition to the injury report, starting with a limited practice Thursday. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reported Thursday night that Brate was still expected to play, but it's possible the outlook has changed after the tight end missed Friday's practice. Tanner Hudson has served as Tampa's No. 3 tight end throughout the playoffs, while blocking specialist Antony Auclair has been a healthy scratch.
