INJURIES

Reemerges in Week 15 win Brate secured all four targets for 54 yards in the Buccaneers' 31-27 win over the Falcons on Sunday.
Impact Brate had seen a sudden downturn in targets coming out of the bye in Week 14 against Minnesota, logging just a single look from Tom Brady in that contest. That followed a three-game stretch prior to the Buccaneers' week off during which the veteran tight end had seen a total of 13 passes come his way, parlaying those opportunities into a serviceable 10-88-1 line. Brate's resurgence Sunday saw him return to a similar level of involvement, but the fact he's part of an offense that has so many mouths to feed will continue to make him tough to trust in fantasy championship games Week 16.

Comeback, Part II: Brady breaks Falcons' hearts again, 31-27

Tom Brady staged another big comeback against the Atlanta Falcons and didn’t even need overtime this team
DECEMBER 20, 2020 • Associated Press
Limited to one grab in win Brate (illness) secured his sole target for nine yards in the Buccaneers' 26-14 win over the Vikings on Sunday.
Impact Brate shook off a late-week illness to log 24 snaps in the contest, but he was limited to his sparsest production since a Week 9 blanking over 12 snaps against the Saints. Brate had multiple receptions in three straight games prior to Sunday, and while he's capable of similar occasional spikes, he remains a middling option during the fantasy postseason due to the considerable amount of competition he faces for targets.

Ready to face Vikings Brate (illness) is active for Sunday's game versus the Vikings, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Impact As expected, Brate has shaken off the illness that surfaced Friday and will suit up in Week 14. He should operate as the No. 2 tight end behind Rob Gronkowski, while Tanner Hudson, who missed last game following the passing of his father, will return to the lineup and slot in as the No. 3 tight end.
DECEMBER 13, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Should play Sunday Brate (illness) is expected to play in Sunday's game versus the Vikings, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Impact Brate was added to the injury report Saturday. The illness hasn't been linked to COVID-19, and he's healthy enough to play in Sunday's NFC matchup. He'll slot in as the No. 2 tight end behind Rob Gronkowski. Over the last three games, Brate has reeled in 10 passes for 88 yards and a touchdown, playing less than 50 percent of the snaps in each outing.
DECEMBER 13, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Questionable for Sunday Brate (illness) has been added to the injury report and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Vikings, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official sitereports.
Impact Brate has seen an uptick in playing time as of late, parlaying at least 20 offensive snaps in each of the last three games into 10 receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown. Tanner Hudson, who missed the previous game after the passing of his father, would step in as the No. 2 option if Brate were ruled out ahead of Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET showdown with the Vikings.

Buccaneers confident they will rebound, finish season strong

Bruce Arians never promised it would be easy to transform the Tampa Bay Buccaneers into championship contenders
DECEMBER 4, 2020 • Associated Press
Four catches in loss Brate secured four of six targets for 34 yards in the Buccaneers' 27-24 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday.
Impact The veteran tight end recorded multiple receptions for the third straight game, easily making it his most productive multi-week stretch of the season. Brate has seen his target tally climb in each of the three contests as well, but he continues to carry a relatively low fantasy floor thanks to the fact he sees the majority of his opportunities relatively close to the line of scrimmage while position mate Rob Gronkowski handles the downfield routes. Brate will look to keep up his recent solid level of involvement in a Week 14 battle against the Vikings following Tampa's Week 13 bye.

Bucs puzzled by inconsistency against playoff contenders

Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are searching for answers for their inconsistency
NOVEMBER 24, 2020 • Associated Press
Three grabs in defeat Brate secured three of four targets for 23 yards in the Buccaneers' 27-24 loss to the Rams on Monday night.
Impact The veteran tight end showed up on the stat sheet for the second straight game after a largely invisible first nine weeks of the season. Brate now has multiple receptions in consecutive contests for the first time all season after posting a 3-31-1 line against the Panthers in Week 11. Despite the modest impact, the reality is Brate's numbers could quickly plummet on any given week, given the wealth of talent at the pass-catching positions for the Buccaneers. The Harvard product will look to carry over his recent momentum into a Week 12 matchup against the Chiefs that could feature plenty of passing from both squads.
NOVEMBER 24, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Finds end zone in win Brate secured all three of his targets for 31 yards and a touchdown in the Buccaneers' 46-23 win over the Panthers on Sunday.
Impact The oft-forgotten tight end was able to make a nice impact in the contest with a five-yard scoring grab late in the first quarter. The catch represented Brate's second visit to the end zone this season, with the other having come Week 4 against the Chargers. Despite the surprising success Sunday, it's worth noting Brate had a combined 4-46 line over the prior four games, making him a speculative play at best for a Week 11 Monday night showdown against the Rams.

NOVEMBER 15, 2020 • Associated Press
No targets in Week 9 loss Brate did not see a target over 12 snaps from scrimmage during the Buccaneers' 38-3 loss to the Saints on Sunday night.
Impact The veteran tight end's blanking on the stat sheet unfortunately might become more of the norm moving forward, much to the chagrin of he and his fantasy managers. Even on a night when Tom Brady was forced to go heavily to the air, the fact the rest of the team's extremely deep pass-catching corps was at full health resulted in Brate being a complete non-factor. Brate will hope to have at least a modest number of opportunities in a Week 10 NFC South battle against the Panthers.
NOVEMBER 9, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Pair of grabs in close win Brate brought in both of his targets for 35 yards in the Buccaneers' 25-23 win over the Giants on Monday night.
Impact The veteran tight end was a solid complementary presence, trailing position mate Rob Gronkowski by two catches and two targets while playing just 12 snaps for the second consecutive contest. Brate does have at least one catch in five straight games, but his already shaky level of involvement could take a further hit with the expected Week 9 debut of Antonio Brown (suspension) adding another asset to the pass-catching pool.
NOVEMBER 3, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
One catch in big win Brate brought in his only target for an eight-yard catch in the Buccaneers' 45-20 win over the Raiders on Sunday.
Impact Brate logged just 12 snaps from scrimmage overall, which constituted 17 percent of Tampa Bay's offensive plays on the day. The veteran's playing time was at its lowest point since prior to O.J. Howard's season-ending Achilles tear, so it remains to be seen if Sunday's usage was merely an outlier or the start of a longer-term trend. What is more certain is that the target share of the remaining members of Tampa Bay's pass-catching corps will take a hit once Antonio Brown (suspension) hits the field Week 9 or beyond, and a player already struggling for looks such as Brate could well see his role diminish further.

OCTOBER 23, 2020 • THEPEWTERPLANK.COM
Limited to once catch Brate hauled in his only target for three yards in the Buccaneers' 38-10 win over the Packers on Sunday.
Impact With Chris Godwin returning from a hamstring injury, position mate Rob Gronkowski logging a team-high eight targets and Ronald Jones responsible for most of the remaining offensive production, Brate was mostly a forgotten man one game after posting a season-best 5-44 line in a Week 5 loss to the Bears. O.J. Howard's season-ending Achilles injury theoretically bumps Brate up a notch on the depth chart, but that doesn't necessarily equate to being a very high priority in a talent-rich pass-catching corps. Brate will try to boost his numbers in a Week 7 road showdown against the Raiders.

Arians not speaking for Brady regarding 4th down confusion

If Tom Brady lost track of what down it was on the final play of a failed comeback bid against the Chicago Bears, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback is keeping it to himself
OCTOBER 9, 2020 • Associated Press
Reemerges in Week 5 loss Brate secured five of six targets for 44 yards in the Buccaneers' 20-19 loss to the Bears on Thursday night.
Impact Kept in proverbial mothballs for the first three games of the season, Brate was on the radar for the first time in 2020 in Sunday's win over the Chargers by virtue of a three-yard touchdown grab. However, he was back to playing a significant role Thursday, tying Mike Evans for the team lead in receptions and drawing even with Rob Gronkowski and Tyler Johnson for second in targets. The absence of O.J. Howard (Achilles) for the rest of the season should give Brate a chance to continue building on the chemistry he and Tom Brady developed all summer, with the veteran tight end's next opportunity to make an impact coming in a Week 6 home battle against the Packers on Sunday, Oct. 18.

Chiefs, Seahawks, Packers, Bills keep top 4 spots in Pro32

The Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills are the top four teams in the latest AP Pro32 poll
OCTOBER 7, 2020 • Associated Press
Scores on first catch of '20 Brate brought in his only target for a three-yard touchdown in the Buccaneers' 38-31 win over the Chargers on Sunday.
Impact The veteran tight end had yet to be targeted coming into Sunday's contest, and although he only played on 16 snaps (21 percent) against the Chargers, Brate was able to make the most of the one ball thrown his way. Ironically, his first-quarter touchdown grab came way before O.J. Howard suffered what coach Bruce Arians termed a ruptured Achilles, but given his teammate's season-ending injury, Brate now stands to see his role significantly expand beginning with Thursday night's Week 5 battle against the Bears.
