INJURIES

Makes trio of catches in win Brate secured three of four targets for 23 yards in the Buccaneers' 38-31 win over the Colts on Sunday.
Impact The tight ends were a focal point of the air attack against a Colts defense adept at limiting wideout production, and although Brate's totals were a far cry from those of Rob Gronkowski's, he still turned in a serviceable line for those holding him in very deep PPR formats. Brate now has multiple grabs in three of the past four contests, although Sunday's tally represented his best figure during that period.

Logs six targets in win Brate brought in two of six targets for 27 yards in the Buccaneers' 30-10 win over the Giants on Monday night.
Impact The veteran tight end wasn't able to pay another visit to the end zone as he had in Week 10, but Brate was able to tie his season high in targets. He wasn't exactly efficient with his opportunities, however, although he did encouragingly log 35 snaps (45 percent) despite Rob Gronkowski's return to action from a back injury. Due to his generally modest role, Brate remains a consideration only in very deep formats and as a DFS dart throw.

Gets into end zone Sunday Brate brought in one of three targets for a six-yard touchdown in the Buccaneers' 29-19 loss to Washington on Sunday.
Impact The veteran tight end recorded a six-yard touchdown grab with 8:46 remaining in the third quarter to bring the Buccaneers to within three points at the time. Brate's visit to the end zone was his first since January's NFC Championship Game win over the Packers, but his volatile week-to-week production and the potential return to action of Rob Gronkowski (back) in Week 11 against the Giants makes him a risky proposition in fantasy.

Another modest showing Brate secured two of four targets for 15 yards in the Buccaneers' 36-27 loss to the Saints on Sunday.
Impact Despite Rob Gronkowski exiting after just six snaps with back spasms and Antonio Brown (ankle) sitting out another contest, Brate was disappointingly quiet yet again. The veteran did spend more time on the field than position mate O.J. Howard by out-snapping him, 37-28, but the two ended up with the same number of catches, and Brate actually had one fewer yard. It seems evident at this point that fantasy managers should have very low expectations for Brate even if Gronkowski remains out Week 10 against Washington following the Week 9 bye.

Blanked on four targets in win Brate failed to bring in any of his four targets in the Buccaneers' 38-3 win over the Bears on Sunday.
Impact It was a thoroughly disappointing afternoon for the veteran tight end, considering he logged a solid 40 snaps and yet came up empty. Brate has two or fewer catches in three of his past four contests, and with Rob Gronkowski (ribs) possibly back for the Week 8 battle against the Saints, his outlook may not brighten anytime soon.

Outpaced by Howard in win Brate brought in three of four targets for 26 yards in the Buccaneers' 28-22 win over the Eagles on Thursday night.
Impact The veteran tight end saw a boost from the one-catch effort he'd turned in against the Dolphins five days earlier, but he was still doubled up by position mate O.J. Howard in receptions despite seeing only five fewer snaps (44-49) than his teammate. Brate has been the steadier producer of the two players even when Rob Gronkowski (ribs) has been healthy, yet both figure to see their opportunities take a hit if the latter is able to suit up for the Week 7 home matchup against the Bears a week from Sunday.
OCTOBER 16, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Held to one catch Sunday Brate secured his only target for 12 yards in the Buccaneers' 45-17 win over the Dolphins on Sunday.
Impact The veteran tight end logged only 27 snaps from scrimmage against Miami, 16 fewer than O.J. Howard, who also saw two more targets. Howard had been the least involved of the two up to Sunday, but both players will see a decline in opportunity once Rob Gronkowski (ribs) returns to action.
OCTOBER 12, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Should fill in for Gronk again Brate is expected to make his second straight start Sunday against the Dolphins with top tight end Rob Gronkowski (ribs) ruled out for the contest.
Impact While Gronkowski's cracked ribs and punctured lung prevented him from playing in the Week 4 win over New England, Brate drew the start and played 64 percent of the offensive snaps. Meanwhile, fellow tight end O.J. Howard (68 percent) saw more field time, but he was deployed mostly as a blocker, running only 16 routes and drawing one target to Brate's 33 and six, respectively. Even if the playing-time split between Brate and Howard remains relatively equitable again Week 5, the former profiles as the more fantasy-friendly option.

FANTASY PLAYS: Players to start and sit for NFL Week 5

The Carolina Panthers’ defense started the season hot, but were a little less scary last week against Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys
OCTOBER 7, 2021 • Associated Press
Two grabs in Week 4 win Brate secured two of six targets for 29 yards in the Buccaneers' 19-17 win over the Patriots on Sunday night.
Impact With Rob Gronkowski (ribs) out of action, Brate played on 64 percent of the offensive snaps, a total of 50 plays. While position mate O.J. Howard actually logged one more play from scrimmage in what was his largest workload of the season by far, he failed to come up with his only target. With Gronkowski expected to miss at least the Week 5 matchup against the Dolphins, evidence that includes Week 4 usage points to the likelihood Brate remains the primary pass-catching option at the position while his teammate is sidelined.

Could replace Gronk on SNF Brate and O.J. Howard could see added playing time this week, with fellow Bucs tight end Rob Gronkowski (ribs) doubtful for Sunday's game against the Patriots, Scott Smith of bucca...
Impact Brate saw just one target on 28 and 33 percent of snaps through the first two weeks of the season, with the lone consolation being that he was at least ahead of Howard (nine percent, 17 percent) for playing time. Gronkowski then hurt his ribs in the Week 3 loss at Los Angeles, and with Gronk's snaps reduced in the second half, Brate finished with four catches for 35 yards on five targets (45 percent snap share). Howard, meanwhile, saw just one target on 19 percent of snaps, but he'll likely take over more of Gronkowski's workload if the Bucs aren't in comeback/catch-up mode (they trailed the Rams by multiple scores last week).

Hey, he's funny. Brady showing his personality as Buccaneer

Reporters who covered Tom Brady for two decades in New England rarely expected anything enlightening or entertaining to emerge from the quarterback’s mouth
OCTOBER 1, 2021 • Associated Press
Season high in catches Brate secured four of five targets for 35 yards in the Buccaneers' 34-24 loss to the Rams on Sunday.
Impact The veteran tight end received a solid 33 snaps from scrimmage overall, with Rob Gronkowski's brief exit from the game playing a part. Brate logged 19 more plays overall than O.J. Howard, who is apparently still being brought along very cautiously after last season's Achilles tear. Despite the serviceable numbers from a PPR perspective Sunday, it's unlikely Brate will be reliable on a week-to-week basis as long as Gronkowski is healthy.

Tom Brady on record pace in Tampa Bay Bucs' high-flying offense
Gets on stat sheet Week 2 Brate secured his only target for eight yards in the Buccaneers' 48-25 win over the Falcons on Sunday.
Impact The veteran tight end logged 21 snaps from scrimmage, which outpaced position mate O.J. Howard by 10 plays overall. Like Howard, Brate's one catch Sunday was his first of the season, and he's likely to continue filling a similarly modest role as long as Rob Gronkowski is healthy.
SEPTEMBER 23, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
No targets over 18 snaps Brate logged 18 snaps from scrimmage but did not see a target in the Buccaneers' 31-29 win over the Cowboys on Thursday night.
Impact The veteran tight end was a source of some sneaky fantasy value at times in 2020 after O.J. Howard went down with a torn Achilles in Week 4, but with the latter now healthy and Rob Gronkowski seemingly back to prior form, there may be sparse opportunity for Brate to make an impact as a receiver in 2021. One confounding stat from Week 1 is that Howard actually logged 12 fewer offensive snaps from Brate, but it's a virtual certainty the former will eventually have a more consistent role in the air attack as the season unfolds.

Brady, Buccaneers begin defense of title against Cowboys

Lofty expectations don’t faze Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
SEPTEMBER 8, 2021 • Associated Press
Pair of grabs in preseason debut Brate brought in both his targets for 18 yards in the Buccaneers' 23-16 preseason win over the Texans on Saturday night.
Impact The veteran tight end hadn't seen any exhibition action until Saturday, but he looked to be in regular-season form already. Brate's targets could certainly take a hit with the return of O.J. Howard this season, especially considering the former saw single-digit snaps from scrimmage over the three full games his teammate played last season before going down with an Achilles tear. Brate's next taste of action comes in the Week 1 clash with the Cowboys on Thursday, Sept. 9.
