Merrill Kelly - Labors in seventh loss Kelly (9-7) took the loss Friday against the Phillies, allowing four runs on five hits and five walks in 4.1 innings. He struck out four.
Impact Kelly's second start since joining the Rangers didn't go nearly as well as his first, as he surrendered at least four runs Friday for the first time since June 15 against the Padres. It was also just the second occurrence this year that the veteran right-hander was unable to toss at least five innings, and the five walks established a season high as well. Kelly will be looking to get back on track when he brings a 3.38 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 131:43 K:BB across 138.2 innings into his next scheduled outing, which is projected to be at home against his former Diamondbacks team.

Robert Garcia - Handed seventh loss Garcia (1-7) took the loss Wednesday, giving up one run on two hits in two-thirds of an innings. He struck out one.
Impact Making his first appearance since a bout of backs spams last weekend, Garcia was brought into a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning and served up what proved to be a game-winning solo shot by Paul Goldschmidt. Garcia has been taken deep in three straight games, and since the beginning of July he's stumbled to a 4.82 ERA, 1.93 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB in 9.1 innings, ratios that would be even worse if it weren't for four unearned runs on his ledger. Phil Maton got the save for the Rangers on Tuesday, and Garcia's hold on the closer role could be hanging by a thread.

Impact The young righty needed threw only 33 of 68 pitches for strikes before getting the hook, as Leiter failed to complete at least five innings for the third time in six starts since the beginning of July. Despite those struggles, he's still managed to post a respectable 3.45 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 28.2 innings over that stretch, albeit with a 1.46 WHIP and 20 walks. Leiter will look to improve his efficiency in his next trip to the mound, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the Diamondbacks.
