Royals agree to 1-year deal with Podsednik

The Royals have found their new leadoff man.

Kansas City has signed outfielder Scott Podsednik to a

one-year deal worth $1.75 million with a club option for 2011.

The deal, according to sources, also includes incentives that

can bring Podsednik to approximately $2 million in 2010 and $2.3

million on his option for ’11. He can void the option if he reaches

525 plate apperances in 2010.

The Royals are Podsednik’s fifth major-league team as he

enters his 10th season. He appeared in 19 total games for the

Mariners in 2001-2002 before joining the Brewers in 2003 and

becoming a full-time player. He went to the White Sox after two

seasons in Milwaukee, then joined the Rockies in 2008 and came back

to the White Sox last season.

For his career, Podsednik is a .277 hitter with 35 home runs

and 249 RBIs.
