Ryan Bliss - Expected to miss 4-to-5 months
Bliss will undergo surgery Friday to repair his left biceps tear and is expected to be sidelined 4-to-5 months, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact
Bliss suffered the injury on a swing during Tuesday's game against the Astros and was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. The 25-year-old had been serving as the Mariners' primary second baseman but is now looking at a lengthy rehab. Dylan Moore should see the bulk of the playing time at second base for Seattle moving forward.

Luis F. Castillo - Optioned to Triple-A
The Mariners optioned Castillo to Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday.
Impact
Castillo's time with the big-league club was less than spectacular, as he'll head back to the minors after giving up seven runs (six earned) over seven total innings alongside a 5:7 K:BB. With George Kirby (shoulder) not expected back until May, the Mariners are again left with an opening in their rotation, and it's currently unclear who will be promoted next to fill the gap.

Randy Arozarena - Late heroics against Astros
Arozarena went 2-for-3 with a grand slam, two walks and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 7-6 win over Houston.
Impact
Before drawing a bases-loaded walk to win it for the Mariners in the ninth frame, Arozarena hammered a grand slam in the eighth inning to get Seattle into the scoring column and make it a one-run game. The slugging left fielder certainly isn't hitting for average in the early going, as he's gone 9-for-47 (.191), but Arozarena has still made an impact at the dish with three big flies, four doubles, nine RBI and 10 walks over 13 appearances.

Luis F. Castillo - Control issues in no-decision
Castillo didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Astros after giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits and five walks in four innings. He struck out three.
Impact
Two walks followed by a trio of singles gave the Astros a three-run lead in the second inning. Castillo then allowed another run on an RBI walk by Brendan Rodgers in the third frame, which went unearned due to a throwing error by the right-hander on the previous sequence. Castillo had trouble putting hitters away Wednesday, needing 100 pitches to finish the outing, and he holds an uninspiring 7.71 ERA, 2.71 WHIP and 5:7 K:BB across seven innings (two starts) this season.

Mitch Garver - Sitting Wednesday
Garver is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros.
Impact
Though he's been limited to just one start at designated hitter through Seattle's first 13 games, Garver could end up being the team's primary option at the position in the aftermath of Victor Robles (shoulder) landing on the IL. Luke Raley had been serving as the team's primary DH against right-handed pitching to begin the season, but he'll pick up a third straight start at Robles' spot in right field. The Mariners have deployed Jorge Polanco at DH in two of their three games versus Houston while he manages a side injury, but the spot could open up for Garver once Polanco is cleared to play third base again.

Miles Mastrobuoni - Drawing second start of season
Mastrobuoni will start at second base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Astros.
Impact
Mastrobuoni will pick up his second start of the season, filling in at the keystone after the Mariners placed everyday second baseman Ryan Bliss (bicep) on the 10-day injured list. Though Bliss appears headed for an extended absence, Mastrobuoni won't necessarily be the Mariners' top choice to replace him. Dylan Moore will start at third base Wednesday, but he could shift over to second base and serve as the primary option at that position once Jorge Polanco (side) -- who is serving as a designated hitter against the Astros -- is cleared to return to the infield.

Leonardo Rivas - Returns to big club
The Mariners recalled Rivas from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.
Impact
Rivas was with the big club briefly earlier this month but didn't see any action. He might be used some at second base while Ryan Bliss (biceps) is on the shelf.

Casey Lawrence - Added to roster
The Mariners selected Lawrence's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.
Impact
Lawrence had made two starts with Tacoma this season, allowing five runs with an 8:3 K:BB over 10.1 innings. The veteran righty will give Seattle some length in the bullpen.
