Gunnar Hoglund - Starts throwing progression
Hoglund (knee/back) has begun a throwing progression, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Hoglund missed all of spring training and the start of the season due to a right knee sprain and a back injury. He's starting his throwing program from scratch, so it's going to take the right-hander a long time before he's cleared to pitch in games.

Brent Rooker - Begins hitting progression
Rooker (oblique) has begun a hitting progression, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Impact
It's a big step for the 31-year-old, though there remains no timetable for his return to the active roster. Rooker has been shelved for the past week-and-a-half with a right oblique strain and could need a few rehab games before returning to the Athletics' lineup.

Mason Barnett - Sent back to minors
The Athletics optioned Barnett to Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday.
Impact
Barnett needed 43 pitches to cover two-plus innings Sunday versus the White Sox in his lone appearance in the majors. Since Barnett would have been unavailable to pitch for a day or two, the Athletics have summoned a fresh bullpen arm to take his roster spot.

Darell Hernaiz - Drives first homer of season
Hernaiz went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and two walks in Sunday's loss to the White Sox.
Impact
With Max Muncy shifting to designated hitter, Hernaiz drew the start at third base and connected on his first homer of the season, a solo shot off Noah Schultz in the second inning. In addition to being his first long ball, Sunday's homer marked the utility infielder's first extra-base hit and RBI of the year. Hernaiz figures to continue operating primarily as a reserve, with most of his starts coming against left-handed pitching.

Zack Gelof - Tallies two RBI in loss
Gelof went 1-for-3 with a two-RBI double and a run scored in Sunday's loss to the White Sox.
Impact
Gelof drew the start in right field and contributed with a two-RBI double in the seventh inning before being pinch hit for Jeff McNeil in the ninth. The double marked Gelof's first RBI of the campaign after opening the season at Triple-A Las Vegas and being recalled April 10. The 26-year-old has seen minimal playing time thus far, going 2-for-8 (.250) across seven MLB appearances.

Jeffrey Springs - Allows seven runs in loss
Springs (3-1) took the loss Sunday, allowing seven runs on nine hits and a walk over five innings in a 7-4 loss against the White Sox. He struck out seven.
Impact
Springs' hot start came to a halt, as the White Sox tagged the southpaw for seven runs, fueled by four homers, in his first loss of the season. Despite the poor run prevention, the 33-year-old generated 14 whiffs and matched a season high with seven strikeouts Sunday. Through five starts, Springs owns a 3.34 ERA and 0.98 WHIP with a 27:9 K:BB across 29.2 innings.

Rookier (oblique) has resumed taking part in light baseball activities, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Carlos Cortes - Taking seat Sunday
Cortes is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.
Impact
Cortes and fellow left-handed hitters Jeff McNeil and Lawrence Butler will hit the bench for the series finale while southpaw Noah Schultz takes the hill for the White Sox. Since Brent Rooker (oblique) landed on the injured list April 10, Cortes has gained a foothold in the Athletics' regular lineup versus right-handed pitching while shuffling between the corner-outfield spots and designated hitter.

Butler went 1-for-3 with a double, RBI, two walks, two stolen bases and one run scored in Saturday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the White Sox.
Impact
Butler tried to turn a leadoff double into a triple in the bottom of the eighth inning but was thrown out at third base. His two stolen bases were his second and third thefts of the season. It's been a slow start to the 2026 campaign for Butler, who is slashing just .197/.274/.318 with four extra-base hits, including a pair of homers, seven RBI, eight runs scored, three steals and a 7:18 BB:K across 73 plate appearances.

Wilson went 2-for-6 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Saturday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the White Sox.
Impact
After going homer-less in the first 17 games of the season, Wilson has now gone deep in two of the last four contests after he took an Erick Fedde cutter over the wall in the second inning. Wilson hit just .196 across the first 12 games this season but is 12-for-25 (.480) over his last eight games. He has six multi-hit games in that span and is now slashing .256/.264/.360 with two homers, 10 RBI, nine runs scored, one stolen base and a 1:11 BB:K across 87 trips to the plate.

Impact
With the Athletics trailing 6-4 in the bottom of the seventh, Kurtz took Jordan Leasure deep for a two-run shot to tie the game. It was just Kurtz's second homer of the season, and he's now driven in six runs over the last three contests. After batting .083 over the first seven games of the season, Kurtz has five multi-hit games over his last 13 contests and is now slashing .235/.429/.368 with two long balls, nine RBI, nine runs scored, two stolen bases and a 23:30 BB:K across 91 plate appearances.
