Suffers loss Perez (0-1) took the loss in Tuesday's 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Rockies, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts in four innings.

Impact Perez was doomed by a third inning during which he permitted five base runners and two of his three runs. The upside is he pitched well enough otherwise though he'll need to strike out more batters to truly make an impact. He's slated to pitch next against the Angels on Sunday.

Impact Perez made his first Cactus League start and was efficient through his three innings. The left-hander worked on a curveball that he's thrown less than 10 percent during his 10-year career, Jack Magruder of MLB.com reports. "I feel great with that pitch, and I think it is another weapon that I have with my stuff," Perez said. He'll add it to his current arsenal which features a cutter, a two-seam fastball and a changeup. "I just need to continue to throw it and get people out" the pitcher added. Where Perez slots into the rotation is up in the air, given that he was the final Rangers starter to appear in a spring game. He'll have one more start before the regular season and could be pushed toward the back end of the rotation. Texas manager Chris Woodward said he's still "working working though" the rotation beyond Opening Day starter Jon Gray.

Impact Perez, who was signed by the Rangers on March 11, will finally make an appearance in a Cactus League game 19 days later. The left-hander has been working on the back fields, so he should be able to extend to three innings at least. That's roughly where the rest of the staff is at in late March. Perez will be part of the rotation, but it's unclear where he slots.

Inks deal with Rangers Perez agreed to a one-year, $4 million contract with the Rangers on Friday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.

Impact Perez had his $6 million team option for 2022 declined by the Red Sox in November, and he'll now join the Rangers with the transaction freeze lifted. The 30-year-old appeared in 36 games (22 starts) for Boston last season and had a 4.74 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 97:36 K:BB over 114 innings. The veteran lefty could have a spot in Texas' starting rotation with a decent showing in spring training.
