Rangers To Start Martin Perez Negotiations Texas general manager Chris Young sees Martín Pérez as part of the team’s overall plan for starting pitching in 2023.
OCTOBER 10, 2022 • STAR-TELEGRAM.COM
Quality in final outing of 2022 Perez (12-8) got the loss after he pitched six innings, surrendering one run on five hits and five walks while striking out two Monday versus the Yankees.
Impact Perez finished his season on a high note, limiting the Yankees to one run over six frames. The only blemish on his line came in the top of the fifth frame when Kyle Higashioka notched an RBI single. Perez snagged a third straight quality start and he produced five of them over his final six outings of the season overall. The left-hander will finish the campaign with a 2.89 ERA and 1.26 WHIP with 169 strikeouts over 32 starts in 2022.
OCTOBER 4, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Allows three runs in loss Perez (12-7) was tagged with the loss against Seattle on Wednesday, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three batters over seven innings.
Impact Perez gave up two runs in the first inning and another in the third before settling down and finishing with four scoreless frames. The left-hander got little run support, however, and ended up with the loss despite tossing his fourth quality start in five September outings. Perez will need to pick up a win in his final start of the season to tie his career-best total of 13, but he's already racked up a career high in strikeouts (167) and is essentially guaranteed to end with his best marks in ERA (currently at 2.93) and WHIP (currently at 1.25).
SEPTEMBER 29, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Turns in quality start Perez allowed three earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out five across six innings Thursday against the Angels. He did not factor into the decision.
Impact Perez allowed all three of his earned runs in the third inning after allowing four consecutive hitters to reach base with two outs. He's had a few blowup outings since the All-Star break but has still turned in six quality starts in his last eight outings. For the season, Perez has maintained an impressive 2.90 ERA with a 164:61 K:BB across 183.1 innings on the campaign.
SEPTEMBER 23, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up ugly win Perez (12-6) earned the win against the Rays on Friday, allowing three runs on nine hits while striking out three and walking one over 5.1 innings.
Impact Despite giving up nine hits and a walk while striking out only three batters, Perez limited the damage to three runs, which the Rangers' offense was able to overcome. Perez tossed 58 of 91 pitches for strikes across 5.1 frames, missing out on a quality start after picking up two in his last two starts. The lefty earned the win, but also saw his ERA worsen to a still impressive 2.84.

Jays drop series finale to Rangers behind strong Perez start

Martin Perez allowed one run in six innings and Adolis Garcia homered for the second consecutive game as the Texas Rangers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 on Sunday afternoon
SEPTEMBER 11, 2022 • Associated Press
Strikes out seven in tough loss Perez (9-4) gave up two earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out seven over six innings to take the loss in a 2-1 defeat against the Twins on Friday.
Impact Perez pitched well on the road in Minnesota, racking up seven punchouts despite only garnering five swinging strikes. His five-pitch mix kept batters guessing and taking called third strikes. Despite being saddled with the loss, it was Perez's 16th quality start of the year. The runs he surrendered came on back-to-back solo jacks in the first inning off the bats of Luis Arraez and Jose Miranda. Perez is putting together the best season of his decade-long career and has a 2.8 Fangraphs WAR to go along with an ERA of 2.79. He is tentatively expected to make his next start at Colorado.
AUGUST 20, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Strikes out seven batters Perez did not factor into the decision against the Mariners on Sunday, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out seven and walking five over six innings.
Impact It was not his best outing, but Perez helped keep the Rangers in the game, throwing 66 of 105 pitches for strikes across six frames and allowing one earned run. The five walks were a single-game season high for the veteran lefty. Perez now has 15 quality starts on the year and has picked up four in his last five outings. He will take a 2.79 ERA into his next appearance.
AUGUST 15, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Falls apart in loss Perez (9-3) took the loss Tuesday in Houston, allowing seven runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two in five innings.
Impact Perez retired the Astros in order over the first three innings but struggled to record outs after that. In the fourth, he lost control and walked three batters before giving up a two-out grand slam to Aledmys Diaz. Houston tacked on two more runs in the fifth and, after giving up a single and a double to start the sixth, Perez was removed. The poor outing snapped a run of four consecutive starts where the lefty allowed only one earned run.

Impact Perez allowed only a solo home run to Ryan McKenna, and otherwise dominated the Orioles lineup by matching his season high with nine strikeouts. Though he's surrendered multiple walks in each of his last four outings, Perez has also allowed only one earned run in each of those appearances. That stretch has lowered his ERA to 2.47 on the season to go along with a 116:38 K:BB across 131 frames.
AUGUST 4, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
No trouble in ninth win Perez (9-2) allowed a run on three hits and two walks while striking out six in seven innings to earn the win over the Angels on Friday.
Impact Perez kept the Angels off the board for five innings before they scraped together a run in the sixth. This was the third straight start in which the southpaw's allowed only one run, and he's given up 10 hits and nine walks in that stretch. The 31-year-old has put together an impressive campaign in his second stint with the Rangers, logging a 2.52 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 107:35 K:BB across 125 innings in 20 starts. He's projected for a home start versus the Orioles next week.
JULY 30, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Yields one run in victory Perez (10-2) allowed one run on four hits and three walks over seven innings Sunday, striking out six and earning a win over Oakland.
Impact Perez fired four scoreless innings before the Athletics broke through with an RBI groundout by Nick Allen in the fifth. After taking a loss in each of his first two appearances of the year, the veteran southpaw is 8-0 with a 2.29 ERA across his subsequent 17 starts. He's allowed two runs despite issuing seven walks over his last 12 frames. Perez will carry a 2.59 ERA into his projected road outing against the Angels next week.

MLB All-Star Game 2022: Julio Rodríguez, Ian Happ lead list of 34 first-timers
Issues four walks Thursday Perez allowed a run on three hits and four walks with nine strikeouts across five innings in a no-decision versus the Mariners on Thursday.
Impact Perez was tagged for 13 runs in 18.2 innings across his last three starts. He limited hits better Thursday, but he matched a season high with four walks and threw only 59 of 102 pitches for strikes. The lone run against the southpaw was an inside-the-park home run from Sam Haggerty. Perez closed out the first half of the campaign with a 2.68 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 95:30 K:BB in 111 innings across 18 starts. He's been a pleasant surprise for the Rangers, which earned him his first All-Star nod.
JULY 15, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Gives up six runs Perez did not factor into the decision against the Twins on Saturday, allowing six runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking one over six innings.
Impact Perez threw 61 of 97 pitches for strikes in Saturday's outing, his worst since a four-run appearance on June 27. It was just the third time this season that the lefty allowed more than three runs in a game. However, it could be a sign of things to come for Perez, since his xFIP sits at 3.72 and his SIERA sits at 3.86 compared to his 2.72 ERA.
JULY 10, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Improves to 7-2 Perez (7-2) earned the win over the Mets on Saturday, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four over 6.2 innings.
Impact Perez was tagged for two homers in the contest, but those were the only hits that produced any runs for the Mets. He continues to go deep into games regularly -- this was the 13th time in 16 starts this season that he has completed at least six innings. Perez has tallied 12 quality starts among those outings, tied for fourth in the majors. The veteran southpaw has been one of the game's most pleasant surprises on the mound this season, posting a 2.34 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 7-2 record over 100 innings.
JULY 3, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Pitches around trouble in win Perez (5-2) earned the victory Tuesday over Philadelphia, striking out six in six scoreless innings while allowing six hits and three walks.
Impact While Perez held the Phillies scoreless he was pitching around trouble all night. The lefty allowed baserunners in every inning but limited the offense to singles and walks. It was the 10th time in 13 starts that he allowed one earned run or fewer while pitching at least six innings. His next start will likely be early next week in Kansas City.

Grossman leads Tigers past Rangers 7-3 for series split

Robbie Grossman homered and drove in four runs as the Detroit Tigers beat the Texas Rangers 7-3 to split the four-game series
JUNE 19, 2022 • Associated Press
Allows one run in no-decision Perez allowed a run on eight hits and struck out five over seven innings in a no-decision versus the Tigers on Thursday.
Impact The lone run Perez gave up came on a Robbie Grossman sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. Perez still gave up a few too many hits, but he was able to limit the damage in contrast to the seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits he gave up last Saturday against the White Sox. The southpaw has pitched to a 2.10 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 65:18 K:BB across 81.1 innings in 13 starts. He's projected for a home start versus the Phillies next week.
JUNE 17, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Gives up 12 hits Perez escaped with a no-decision Saturday against the White Sox despite allowing seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits, striking out four while walking two.
Impact Perez owns a modest 20.0 percent strikeout rate, so the 1.56 ERA he carried into this start was always going to rise once the hits started falling. They fell early and often in this one, with the White Sox scoring twice in the second inning, three times in the fourth and twice more in the fifth. Perez also gave up just his second homer of the season, a two-run shot to Jake Burger. The outing raised his ERA by over half a run to 2.18 on the year and stands in stark contrast to the 0.88 ERA he posted across his last nine starts, serving as a reminder that this is a pitcher with a career 4.55 ERA we're talking about, not one who regularly finds himself in Cy Young contention. He'll try to get back on track next week in Detroit.

Strikes out seven in no-decision Perez allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in six innings in a no-decision versus the Mariners on Sunday.
Impact Perez was solid, but the two runs against him were from Eugenio Suarez hits (solo home run, RBI single). The left-hander has now gone at least six innings in nine straight starts -- he continues to provide solid length, and this was the first time he's allowed multiple runs since May 10. Perez owns a sparkling 1.56 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 56:16 K:BB through 69.1 innings in 11 starts overall. He'll likely make his next start in Chicago against the White Sox next weekend.
