Slated to throw bullpen Manager Alex Cora said Friday that Perez (illness) will throw a bullpen at Triple-A Worcester in the coming days, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
Impact Perez completed his quarantine Wednesday and joined the Red Sox for workouts late in the week, but he'll spend some time rehabbing with the minor-league club. The southpaw is slated to make a rehab appearance in Worcester on Sunday and will likely be considered to rejoin the big-league squad afterward.

Red Sox Notebook: Christian Arroyo, Martin Perez back in Boston as Sox inch closer to full health There seems to be a light emerging at the end of the tunnel of the Red Sox’ COVID-19 outbreak.
SEPTEMBER 9, 2021 • BOSTONHERALD.COM
Needs rehab assignment Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Perez (illness) completed his quarantine and is set to fly to Boston later Wednesday to rejoin the team for workouts, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
Impact After a team off day Thursday, the Red Sox will head to Chicago for a three-game series with the White Sox, but Perez isn't expected to accompany the team. Instead, Cora said the veteran lefty would likely head out on a minor-league rehab assignment, as Perez looks to get his arm reconditioned after being shut down due to his positive COVID-19 test. Perez isn't believed to have experienced any significant side effects since catching the virus, so he may only need to make one rehab appearance before joining the Boston bullpen.

Tests positive for COVID-19 Perez tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday and will be placed on the injured list, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.
Impact Perez is the third player to have recently tested positive for the virus, as Enrique Hernandez and Christian Arroyo were also placed on the COVID IL on Friday due to positive tests. The veteran left-hander will be sidelined for at least the next 10 days and will need to clear the health and safety protocols before rejoining the team.

Falters in save chance Perez allowed one unearned run on one walk and a hit batsman while striking out one over a third of inning in Saturday's 5-3 extra-inning win over Cleveland.
Impact Perez was called on to pitch the bottom of the 10th inning, after Boston plated three in the top half of the inning, courtesy of a J.D. Martinez three-run home run. The left-hander walked a batter then hit Bradley Zimmer before striking out Bobby Bradley. Once his three-batter minimum was reached, manager Alex Cora had Adam Ottavino close out the win. Perez, who was moved from the starting rotation to the bullpen earlier this month, was initially effective as a reliever but things have gone south since. He had a 2.70 ERA in first five outings from the 'pen, but Perez has since permitted eight runs (four earned) over 3.2 innings (9.82 ERA).

Dropped from rotation Manager Alex Cora announced Friday that Perez will exit the starting rotation and move to the bullpen, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Impact The left-hander has an 8.53 ERA across his past five starts (19 innings) and will depart the rotation in favor of Tanner Houck. Chris Sale is also nearing his return from the injured list, which should close the door on Perez rejoining the rotation down the stretch.

Lifted early in loss Perez (7-8) was charged with the loss Thursday against the Tigers after surrendering three runs on five hits and no walks while striking out two across 1.1 innings.
Impact After giving up a solo home run to Robbie Grossman in the first, Perez never fully recovered, leaving with the bases loaded while facing a 2-0 deficit. The outing was his shortest of the season. The southpaw has now made nine starts of four innings or fewer, which is the most in the American League while tying for the most in the majors. Meanwhile, across his last five starts, Perez has surrendered eight home runs, raising his ERA to 4.77 and WHIP to 1.52. The 30-year-old is projected to take the mound again next week against Tampa Bay.
