Snaps losing streak Castillo (2-8) allowed one run on three hits and a walk over six innings Friday, striking out five and earning a win over St. Louis.

Impact The only run to score on Castillo came on a solo shot by Edmundo Sosa in the fifth inning as he produced his best outing in over a month. He had lost his previous seven starts entering Friday's contest, registering a 7.91 ERA through 33 frames during that span. The 28-year-old righty picked up his first win since April 7 and lowered his season ERA to 6.63. Castillo is projected to face the Brewers at home next week.

Losing streak reaches seven games Castillo (1-8) was tagged with the loss Saturday against the Cubs after giving up four runs (two earned) on four hits and four walks while fanning three across five innings.

Impact Castillo has found himself at the losing end in each of his last seven outings and has given up at least four runs in all but two of those appearances, so he's clearly moving in the wrong direction. The right-hander has posted a 7.22 ERA and will try to bounce back in his next start, scheduled for next week against the Cardinals on the road.

Impact After an encouraging outing against the Giants on Tuesday, this outing wiped out that progress. The Brewers jumped on him early, scoring three runs in the first inning, an inning that continues to be a problem for him. He generated 13 whiffs on 44 swings.

Impact There isn't much positivity to pull away from this one. Castillo simply couldn't pull it together at hitter-happy Coors Field. He has now allowed four or more earned runs in five of his eight starts this season while serving up 18 earned runs over his last three starts against the Rockies. The right-hander will look to turn things around Tuesday against the Giants.

Impact Castillo's out-pitch is his changeup, so it's obviously a big concern when it's not on. He threw 24 changeups against Cleveland on Saturday, drawing 17 swings and only one whiff. So it follows that he only had two strikeouts in his short start Saturday, neither on the changeup. Alas, his next start is in Coors Field this week, making it less likely that he fixes his early-season woes.

Impact The right-hander threw 57 of 84 pitches before getting the hook, as Castillo failed to last six innings for the fifth straight start. His ERA now stands at 6.42 -- exactly double last year's mark -- and he'll take a disappointing 26:10 K:BB through 33.2 innings into his next outing.

Impact This was about as ugly as it gets for an ace-level pitcher. Castillo just did not have it on a cold Opening Day in Cincinnati and the defense behind him let him down; Eugenio Suarez's return to shortstop did not go well, with a pair of errors in the first two innings helping dig the early hole. It was a painful reminder that Castillo faces an uphill battle with the defense behind him, and Castillo's velocity was down, which bears watching. He lines up to face the Pirates at home next week.
