Last Night in Baseball: It (Somehow) Could Have Been Even Worse for The Mets
Sal Stewart - Taking over at first base Stewart started at first base and went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 7-4 loss to the Athletics.
Impact Stewart launched his third homer in 10 games since being called up when rosters expanded in September. He's started four of the last five games and six of the last seven at first base, as the prospect has nudged Spencer Steer out of the way. The Reds, who were swept by the A's, are still in the hunt for a playoff spot, but manager Terry Francona appears to be juggling two missions -- develop young talent while not abandoning the quest for the postseason.

Will Benson - Goes deep again Benson started in left field and went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 7-4 loss to the Athletics.
Impact Benson upped Cincinnati's lead to 3-0 with his second-inning home run. He's started four of the last five contests and gone deep three times during that stretch. The bump in playing time came out of nowhere for Benson, who rode the bench for the first 20 games after being called up in mid-August.

Rhett Lowder - Next rehab outing scheduled Lowder (oblique) will next make a rehab start Friday for Triple-A Louisville, MLB.com reports.
Impact Lowder began a rehab assignment Saturday, when he threw 34 pitches over two innings. Reds manager Terry Francona isn't ready to commit to having Lawlar ready to help the team in its pursuit of a playoff spot or during the postseason should Cincinnati qualify, per Mark Sheldon of MLB.com, but nothing has been ruled out. "I think the best way we can look at it is trying to get him ready to pitch," Francona said Sunday.

Nick Lodolo - Tagged for three homers in loss Lodolo (8-8) took the loss against the Athletics on Sunday, allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out five over 5.1 innings.
Impact The left-hander was sharp early, giving up just one hit across his first three frames before losing control in the middle innings, where he was tagged for three home runs -- the first time he's surrendered that many in a game since 2023. Lodolo also gave up eight hits for just the second time this season, marking Sunday as one of his rougher outings after a dominant stretch in which he posted a 1.86 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and 39 strikeouts over his previous seven starts (38.2 innings). The 27-year-old will look to bounce back in his next scheduled outing against the Cubs.
