CJ Donaldson - Surprises as lead back in key win Donaldson compiled 19 rushes for 67 yards and one touchdown and caught their only target for nine yards during Saturday's 14-7 win over Texas.
Impact Donaldson was expected to make an impact, but he emerged as the top running back in Ohio State's opener. The West Virginia transfer was projected to be part of a timeshare with James Peoples, but instead he displayed the breakout ability he demonstrated as a Mountaineer and took control of the running game. Peoples may get more carries against inferior opponents, but the Buckeyes are clearly favoring Donaldson as the lead back.

Julian Sayin - Efficient in opener Sayin was 13-for-20 passing for 126 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 14-7 win versus Texas.
Impact The future of the quarterback position was fuzzy after Will Howard's departure, but Sayin won the job in camp and was ready to make a statement against Texas. While his numbers weren't spectacular, one has to take the quality of the opponent into account. Sayin never seemed out of his depth, and he fared well despite a lukewarm day from Jeremiah Smith. Texas should be Ohio State's toughest test, and we should see better numbers from Sayin against weaker opponents over the next two weeks.
