Arrow McLaren's New Shop Renovation Nears Finish Line
Arrow McLaren took possession of its newly acquired Indianapolis facility July 1 and the renovation and expansion project, adding 11,000 square feet to the original structure, is nearing the finish line.
This week, all heavy equipment is being moved in and installed, with renovations expected to be completed by Dec. 31. Team members will officially transition into the building Jan. 5.
To reach completion, construction crews over the next few weeks turn their focus on interior finishes, including final paint projects, tiling, flooring and ceiling grids, while team personnel continue moving and staging equipment for installation in the new shop.
“We could not be more excited to move into the McLaren Racing Center next month,” said Kevin Thimjon, president of Arrow McLaren. “We look forward to applying the final touches this month and kicking off this new era for Arrow McLaren in 2026.”
Demolition on the building began July 7, followed by mezzanine construction July 31. More than 20 new windows were cut and installed by Oct. 15, with drywall work completed Nov. 30. The expanded race shop provides Arrow McLaren with much-needed space as it moves from its 33,000-square-foot facility on Coffman Road in Indianapolis, formerly the Schmidt Peterson Motorsports shop.
Since rejoining the NTT INDYCAR SERIES full-time in 2020, Arrow McLaren has steadily grown, expanding its entries and increasing its staff from roughly 30 employees to more than 120. The new race shop is the next step as the organization reinforces its long-term commitment to the INDYCAR SERIES and prepares for continued growth.
The team began its return in 2020 as a two-car outfit with an Indy 500-only entry. It expanded to three full-time entries plus an additional Indy 500-only car in 2023 and has maintained that structure due to limited space in its current building.
The new building allows the team to expand.
Upon entering the McLaren Racing Center, employees and visitors will step into a new lobby featuring a sweeping staircase and a display of McLaren INDYCAR and Formula One race cars. The staircase leads to the new second-floor mezzanine, which includes a trophy case, office space for the commercial team and a 70-plus–seat break room and event space with a viewing window overlooking the shop floor.
The MRC also will include a state-of-the-art fitness and recovery center featuring new Sorenix strength equipment, a recovery area with a sauna and two ice baths and dedicated locker rooms.
“This move will transform the way we go racing, the way our teammates work and the way we engage with our partners and the Indianapolis community,” Thimjon said. “The team has invested a significant amount of time and effort into this project, and seeing all that planning come to life over the past five-plus months has been incredibly gratifying.”
