Pappas has 3 TD passes, leads Morehead St. over Butler 28-18
MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) — Mark Pappas threw three touchdown passes, BJ Byrd had two TD catches and scored on an 85-yard kickoff return, and Morehead State beat Butler 28-18 on Saturday in the spring season finale for both teams.
Morehead State (4-3, 4-2 Pioneer Football League) has won four of its last five games, including a 35-14 win at Butler (0-6, 0-6) on April 3.
Pappas connected with Bryd on a 40-yard touchdown on the Eagles' third play from scrimmage, and again on a 3-yard TD pass with 2:19 remaining in the third quarter. Pappas also had a 19-yard touchdown pass to Thomas Campell-Clay in the first quarter.
Pappas was 19-of-27 passing for 231 yards. He has thrown 14 touchdown passes in the last six games and has seven career games with three touchdowns passing.
Nick Orlando answered Pappas's third TD pass with a 42-yard touchdown pass to Kavon Samuels that pulled Butler to 21-18, but Byrd returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown to end the third quarter and cap the scoring.
Butler's two possessions in the fourth quarter each ended with a turnover.
Sam Brown completed 27 of 36 passes for 284 yards and threw a touchdown pass for Butler. Orlando finished 5-of-6 passing for 54 yards, and he carried the ball 10 times for 56 yards rushing.
