San Diego Buzz: Ferrell takes Petco Park and SDSU's fancy new jerseys

The San Diego Padres have had a rough week on the field since taking two out of three from the Marlins last weekend, winning just one game in Milwaukee during a four-game series. But one thing the organization can claim when times are tough is that they sure know how to host unique events at Petco Park like no other team (see Lil Jon and Nelly at Petco Park). The team announced this week that they will be premiering Will Ferrell's "Ferrell Takes the Field" after a Padres-Dodgers game in September, as well as hosting a "Spin at the Park" event as part of Sept. 12's "Pedal the Cause Radio-Telethon". If you're enthusiastic about spinning, the rendering of the setup looks pretty awesome and it's all for a great cause in supporting cancer research.

In other Padres notes... Dick Enberg is officially in the baseball Hall of Fame and colleagues congratulated him. Justin Upton is pretty good at creating memes. And the folks at Madfriars list their players of the month in the Padres organization.

San Diego State football has been making headlines in multiple ways recently, with being selected to finish first in the Mountain West's West Division and then revealing these awesome new jerseys with helmets that feature the Aztec calendar. And if you didn't know head coach Rocky Long, he's one of the coolest coaches around.

Junior Seau will posthumously be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday, but not before some controversy. First, the NFL was not going to let Seau's daughter speak on behalf of her late father. After much debate and headlines, the NFL changed its mind and decided to allow her to speak. But then they missed again and decided to feature Seau in a Patriots jersey on the Hall of Fame banner, rather than a Chargers jersey. Seau did play four seasons with the Patriots, but was undoubtedly the face of the Chargers' franchise for over decade. San Diego fans were not happy about it.

The Los Angeles Clippers' big three in Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan are expected to attend USA Basketball's minicamp next week. And on a side note, Blake Griffin caught up with TMZ in Brentwood and gave his thoughts on the rap game's biggest beef currently between Meek Mill and Drake.

WWE Superstar Titus O'Neill was in San Diego last week for a show and decided to take homeless people out to a restaurant for a meal. After a bad experience the first night with the restaurant, he decided to try again with much success.
