Clean sweep: Ford wins everything during dominant Daytona weekend

Published Feb. 23, 2015 5:56 p.m. ET

Throughout much of Daytona Speedweeks, it appeared the Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolets and the Joe Gibbs Racing Toyotas were the fastest cars preparing for Sunday's 57th running of the Daytona 500.

Apparently, Ford didn't get the message.

On Sunday, Team Penske's Joey Logano was a factor at the front of the field for much of the day, and got the right push at the right time to surge ahead and take command of the race. When the caution flew on the white flag lap, Logano's No. 22 Ford led the Chevrolets of Kevin Harvick and Dale Earnhardt Jr., while Denny Hamlin's Toyota followed in fourth.

Taking the victory, Logano gave Ford Motor Company its fourth win of the year at Daytona International Speedway.

Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates took the iconic blue oval to Victory Lane in the Rolex 42 at Daytona, Tyler Reddick drove his Brad Keselowski Racing Ford to the win in Friday night's Camping World Truck Series race; sophomore driver Ryan Reed gave longtime Ford owner Jack Roush his first win at Daytona in Saturday's Xfinity Series race; and on Sunday, Logano completed the clean sweep.

The accomplishment was not lost on Logano, even after all the celebrations of winning the Daytona 500.

"I think that's a pretty big deal for those guys," said Logano. "You deserve a high five or something."

"You can't ask for a better weekend starting out with the truck race and Brad Keselowski's truck team winning, and then Ryan Reed winning the Xfinity race for Roush Fenway Racing, and now Team Penske and Joey Logano with the Daytona 500 championship," said Raj Nair, group president, global product development for Ford. "Roush Yates Engines for those three wins plus winning the 24 Hours of Daytona a few weeks before that. Roush Yates Engines are right now undefeated at Daytona."
