Giants offensive lineman lobbying for Ex-Hawkeye Brandon Scherff

Former Iowa All-American Brandon Scherff figures to be one of the first offensive lineman taken in the NFL Draft next week in Chicago. The top prospect has caught the eye of current New York Giant Justin Pugh.

Earlier today, Pugh had this to say about the prospects of bringing in the Hawkeye per the New York Daily News

“I like the kid from Iowa, Pugh said of Scherff. Seems like a tough kid. That’s someone I would like. He’s a tough guy. He plays tackle. He may be a guard, he may be a tackle - that’s something I went through (before the 2013 NFL draft). I’m just looking forward to getting a guy in here who wants to work and do things the right way. I’ve heard the kid is great, so would love to have him.”

Any notion that he would be threatened by Scherff playing the same position was also quickly squashed by Pugh:

“I’m loving my time at right tackle,” he said. “But I don’t mind playing guard. I want to win. I want to go to the playoffs, and that is my priority this year. So wherever that puts me and whatever the best five guys are, that’s OK.”

It’s great to see Pugh publicly having a team first attitude. Scherff has been linked to the Giants quite a bit and been consistently called “the perfect Giant” so he and many Giants fans may get their wish.
