Phillies’ Martinez to pitch in Class A on Sunday

Pedro Martinez will pitch in a competitive game for the first time in 10 months on Sunday in Class A.

The 37-year-old righthander, who went on the 15-day disabled list immediately after signing with the Phillies on July 15, will pitch for Clearwater against St. Lucie, The Inquirer reported.

Martinez has thrown twice since signing. He had a bullpen session July 18 before the Phillies played the Marlins at Land Shark Stadium and pitched a simulated game Tuesday in Clearwater.

Martinez’s next outing could be Friday for Triple-A Lehigh Valley of the International League, the paper reported.
