Vikings activate QB Heinicke, release TE Pruitt
The Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday activated quarterback Taylor Heinicke from the reserve/non-injury list and waived tight end TE MyCole Pruitt.
Heinicke signed with the Vikings last season as an undrafted free agent. He was on the active roster the entire season but did not appear in a game. He missed all of training camp and preseason with an injury to his ankle and leg after trying to get into his house after locking himself out.
A fifth-round pick in 2015 out of Southern Illinois, Pruitt played in all 16 games, with start starts, as a rookie, recording 10 receptions for 89 yards. Pruitt appeared in just two games this season with one catch.
Minnesota now has three quarterbacks on its roster, with starter Sam Bradford and backup Shaun Hill. The Vikings have three tight ends, starter Kyle Rudolph and backups Rhett Ellison and David Morgan.
