Rubio has 'significant' ankle sprain, out indefinitely

Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio will be sidelined indefinitely after an MRI confirmed he has a "significant" sprain in his left ankle, the team announced Saturday.
Minnesota head coach Flip Saunders told the media before Saturday night's game at Miami that Rubio will be on crutches for 10-14 days.
Rubio rolled the ankle sideways driving to the rim against Orlando's Willie Green with 2:28 left in the second quarter of Minnesota's loss Friday night. He was initially diagnosed with a sprained left ankle and spent the rest of the night on crutches.
Through five games this season Rubio is averaging 9.4 points, 10.0 assists and 5.6 rebounds in 28.8 minutes per game.
It's not the fourth-year veteran's first brush with injury. Rubio tore an ACL late in his rookie season and missed parts of the 2012-13 campaign as he finished rehabbing from it.
This latest ailment is a disappointing blow for a player who just signed a four-year, $55 million extension late last week. Until he returns, 2014 free-agent signee Mo Williams and rookie Zach LaVine will both be in line for a minutes increase.
