Rams QB Austin Davis still not recognized by security
Austin Davis has come a long way.
An undrafted quarterback out of Southern Miss in 2012, he bounced around the league a bit and ended up coaching high-school football. But then the Rams came calling in 2013 and after a serious of fortuitous turns, the starting QB job landed in his lap.
Davis took that chance and ran with it as his steady play was a big reason why the Rams took down the defending champion Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Has that success gone to his head? No chance. How could it? After all, he doesn't even get recognized in his own team facility.
Davis was a guest on "The Dan Patrick Show" on Monday, and he told the host how a security guard at the Rams' team facility wouldn't let him in the building. Why? The guard didn't recognize who Davis was.
Check out the clip (just past the 1:00 mark):
I call foul on the security guard. I bet he recognized Davis, but was probably abiding by the letter, rather than the spirit, of the law. The guard was playing despot and the entrance was his fiefdom. This is how the conversation must have gone down:
Davis: Sorry, I forgot my badge. Do you mind buzzing me in?
Guard: Do you have your badge?
Davis: No, sorry, like I just said, I forgot it at home. It's in my other pants.
Guard: Oh, so you DON'T have your badge?
Davis: No, sir.
Guard: Sorry, I can't let you in without a badge because there's no way for me to know whether you work here.
Guard: HAHA, yeah right. You're not Sam Bradford, dude.
Davis: I know! I'm Austin Davis! We almost beat the 49ers yesterday!
Guard: I don't watch football.
Davis: I literally wave to you every morning! We've even made small talk!
Davis: Screw this, I'm going in. I've gotta watch film
Don't worry, Austin Davis, you'll be a household face soon enough.
