Nobody is going to argue LeBron James' statement during the NBA Finals that he believes he's "the best player in the world."

So who's the next best?

New Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry believes it's Anthony Davis.

"We got the best player in the NBA not named LeBron James," Gentry told The Times Picayune at his introductory news conference on Monday. "But I'm really excited. I look at the roster and a lot of these guys I have a special relationship with."

There's no doubt Davis is a rising superstar in the league, but surely Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, James Harden and a few others are ahead of him as being labeled best player in the NBA behind James.

Gentry saw first-hand what reigning league MVP Curry can do as an assistant coach on the Warriors' staff during their championship run last season.
