NAU beats Southern Utah to end 8-game skid

CEDAR CITY, Utah -- Marcus DeBerry scored 18 points as Northern Arizona notched its first Big Sky win, beating Southern Utah 73-63 on Saturday night.

The win snapped an eight-game losing streak for the Lumberjacks (3-11, 1-2 Big Sky Conference) who averaged 44 percent shooting from the field and 88 percent from the line. Kris Yanku scored 15 points with 11 rebounds, Felix Rivera-Vega had 10 points and 11 rebounds and Corey Brown chipped in another 10 points.

The Lumberjacks scored 14 unanswered points to take a 22-17 lead with 7:26 left in the first half and had a 36-29 advantage at the break.

Northern Arizona connected on five 3-pointers in the second half but Southern Utah kept pace and the teams were tied 47-47 with 11:13 to play.

Trey Kennedy scored 15 points and Casey Oliverson added 14 for the Thunderbirds (3-10, 1-2).
