Janay Rice tweets response to Ray Rice Halloween costumes

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 9:25 p.m. ET

The NFL had a rough September. The Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson domestic violence sagas played out in front of the world on television, the Internet and in print.

Rice (for his now infamous elevator video that showed him punching his wife Janay) and Peterson (who allegedly abused his son with a switch) are no longer playing football this season. Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy has also been relegated to being a bystander for his role in a domestic violence conviction that he is appealing.

Here is what Janay Rice was responding to — a small sampling of what's already made its way onto social media:

There was also this, with an adult who dressed his child as Peterson.

The NFL has promised changes, and has launched a campaign to raise awareness for domestic violence and sexual assault, like this one:

It would be easy for us to tell you how absurd all of this is, and how much more absurd it will be on Friday. How much of the public outrage that fueled the outcries last month has been somewhat forgotten, and given way to this type of morbid humor.

It is sad, considering how this situaton was viewed just last month. Sometimes the term "all in good fun" doesn't apply.

Janay Rice's tweets should confirm that.
