Daily Fantasy Baseball 2016 Monthly Recap: June

As the AL and NL All-Star teams are revealed, let us look back at June and relive the best and worst in daily fantasy baseball.
DFS All-Stars
C - Buster Posey, SF
1B - Wil Myers, SD
2B - Brian Dozier, MIN
3B - Josh Donaldson, TOR
SS - Danny Espinosa, WAS
OF - Mike Trout, LAA
OF - Ian Desmond, TEX
OF - Adam Jones, BAL
SP - Julio Teheran, ATL
SP - Bud Norris, LAD
When your job is to replace a three-time Cy Young Award-winner, there's some added pressure to perform. However, the fantasy baseball community wasn't expecting much from Norris, which made his success even more surprising. Norris notched at least 30 DK points (over 50 FD points) in two of his last three starts and finished June with a 2-1 record and a 2.08 ERA.
DFS Busts
C - Yan Gomes, CLE
1B - Justin Smoak, TOR
2B - Jurickson Profar, TEX
3B - Alex Rodriguez, NYY
SS - J.J. Hardy, BAL
OF - Matt Joyce, PIT
OF - Billy Burns, OAK
OF - Nomar Mazara, TEX
SP - James Shields, CWS
SP - Aaron Nola, PHI
Last month, I listed Nola as a pitching surprise, but he has since lost that loving feeling. He's allowed at least five earned runs in four straight starts. In June, Nola concluded the month 1-3 with a 10.42 ERA.
DFS Pitching Surprises
1. Danny Duffy, KC (11.25 K/9, 3.25 ERA)
2. James Paxton, SEA (10.64 K/9, 4.15 ERA)
3. Matt Shoemaker, LAA (9.64 K/9, 2.14 ERA)
4. Kenta Maeda, LAD (9.59 K/9, 2.52 ERA)
5. Jerad Eickhoff, PHI (40.7 FD points, 21.3 DK points)
While ranking the starting pitchers by the last 30 days, you see the same top tier names who were drafted high in your fantasy baseball league (Max Scherzer, Chris Sale, Jacob deGrom, etc.). However, third on that list was Eickhoff. He compiled 244 FD points and 128 DK points, landing his name within the top eight scorers on DK and the top four on FD. In June, Eickhoff was 3-2 with a 2.23 ERA and struck out 33 batters in 36.1 innings of work.
Splits Superstars
Editor's note: I'm unable to find a site that provides both the stats against lefties/righties while also keeping it within a specific month. So, these are the splits leaders for the season. If you find such a site to help me out, please put the link in the comment section below. Thanks!
For those who are unfamiliar with DFS posts, I try to add as many home run hitters as possible to my daily fantasy baseball lineups. One way of doing that is to look at a player's isolated power numbers (ISO). The ISO statistic removes singles and provides a larger weight for each extra-base hit.
Last year, the league average was a .150 ISO. So, when you see me list a player's ISO, you know why I emphasize hitters with numbers much higher than the 2015 averages.
vs. RHP
1. David Ortiz, BOS (.382 ISO)
2. Jake Lamb, ARI (.347)
3. Adam Duvall, CIN (.330)
4. Robinson Cano, SEA (.308)
5. Josh Donaldson, TOR (.307)
It was quite the month for Lamb. He averaged the second-best DFS average points among third basemen, trailing only Donaldson. In 22 starts, in the past 30 days, Lamb averaged 16.4 FD points and 12.2 DK points. He has a .316 AVG against righties as opposed to his .200 AVG when a southpaw is on the hill. Last month, Lamb crushed nine home runs and delivered 27 RBI.
vs. LHP
1. Nelson Cruz, SEA (.420 ISO)
2. Marcell Ozuna, MIA (.394)
3. Danny Espinosa, WAS (.385)
4. Marcus Semien, OAK (.384)
Not one, but two middle infielders cracked the Top Five for best ISO against lefties in 2016. The biggest surprise has to be Espinosa. Though he only has a .262 AVG against left-handed pitchers, Espinosa takes full advantage of every hit. In June, Espinosa contributed 25 hits with 14 of them going for extra-bases. He hit nine home runs in June. Nine! Espinosa hit 13 homers in the entire 2015 season.
