Catch me if you can: Kid racers outrun NASCAR officials

An event scheduled to be a quick sprint from the restart line in Turn 4 to the start/finish line took an unexpected turn at Kingsport Speedway in Tennessee last Thursday. Located fewer than 30 miles from Bristol Motor Speedway, the track known as "The Concrete Jungle" hosted a full night of racing featuring several different divisions.
The biggest moment of the night came in the opening race when 11 children, ranging in age from 17 months to eight years old, raced in classic battery-powered cars. Once the race reached its scheduled distance, commands to stop were ignored by three youngsters who thought it would be fun to steal additional track time, and headed three wide into turns 1 and 2.
NASCAR officials Chase Brashears and Billy Lane chased the kids on foot -- which ultimately culminated in one of the officials taking a dive to the payment. The speedway plans to host more "Kid Racers" events in the future ... we can only hope they open the full track next time.
